Hey folks! 👋🏻

I’ve been seeing a massive spike in reports about a “recruiter” named Phoebe R. (or Phoebe Roberts) reaching out to people on LinkedIn and via text. She’s claiming to represent DataAnnotation, offering that dream “work-from-home, train-AI-models” gig for $25–$40/hr.

Before you click that “Apply” link, let’s talk about why this is a classic Phishing Scam and how you can protect yourself.

The Anatomy of the Phoebe Scam 🕵🏻

The scam is clever because it uses a legitimate company (DataAnnotation.tech) as a shield. Here is how the trap is set:

  1. The Cold Outreach: You get a DM or text. It’s professional, it’s polite, and it promises high pay for “simple tasks”.
  2. The “Ghost” Profile: If you try to click Phoebe’s profile, you’ll often find it’s a “LinkedIn Member” (no name) or the page is broken. This is because LinkedIn’s security is already playing whack-a-mole with these fake accounts.
  3. The Third-Party Link: They’ll push you toward a Google Form, a Telegram chat, or a suspicious URL that looks like the real site but isn't.

Look how many messages she has sent!

Red Flags (Check these twice!) 🚩

  • Urgency: “We need to hire 50 people today!” (Legit companies don't hire via frantic DMs).
  • Zero Interview: If they offer you the “job” without a skill assessment or a real interview, run.
  • Payment Requests: DataAnnotation.tech never asks for money to start. If someone asks for a “startup fee” or sends you a check to buy “equipment”, it’s 100% a scam.

How to Stay Safe 🛡️

  • Go to the Source: If you want to work for them, type dataannotation.tech directly into your browser. Never use a link sent in a DM.
  • Enable 2FA: These scammers are often trying to hijack your LinkedIn account to scam your connections. Turn on Two-Factor Authentication now.
  • Report & Block: Don't just ignore it. Report the message as “Scam or Fraud” to help the platforms take these bots down.

Bottom line: AI training is a real job, but “Phoebe” isn't a real recruiter. Stay sharp, keep your data private, and don't let the “easy money” bait cloud your judgment.

Stay safe out there! ✌🏻
